Biography

ITA is owned and operated by Dr. David O. Carter. Dr. Carter’s expertise is in forensic taphonomy and medicolegal death investigation, particularly decomposition cases, forensic microbiology, and forensic entomology. He has studied decomposition since 1999 and is interested in improving the investigation of decomposition cases and availability of green deathcare services. Dr. Carter serves as an expert scientist to deliver information and justice. He uses expertise to assist in reconstructing decomposition scenes, identifying the deceased, estimating postmortem interval, and optimizing green deathcare practices. In addition, Dr. Carter is a certified Forensic Entomology Technician and possesses the skills and knowledge to recognize, collect, and prepare insect evidence for analysis. Dr. Carter has consulted on death investigations around the world and his research is published in prominent scientific journals including Journal of Forensic Sciences, Nature Microbiology, and Science.

Education

Dr. Carter earned a BS in Anthropology from the University of Idaho in 1999. He earned his MSc in Forensic Archaeology from Bournemouth University in 2001 and his PhD in the Department of Biochemistry at James Cook University in 2005.
